@Anon1: I am actually working on a Lutece drawing but it’s crawling along and I’m honestly scared of it lolol I want to make it (and my other idea for them if I ever actually get to it) really perfect and the best I can because of how much i fucking love them. Then again, I approach my personal art/characters/stories the same way so y’know ART IS HARD GUYS.

@demonicballoffluff: The stickers we print ourselves are on adhesive vinyl we buy from a trade supplier, though we’ve been getting a lot of our stickers printed by StandOut, too.

No, I’m sorry. We’ve been paring down our yearly cons and we have it down to 7 finally, so adding a new one isn’t really feasible for us.

@iamboogers: I graduated a few years back, and HAHA yes. Still a good chunk of debt which I’ve been ace with ignoring for a while now and we make all our munay off our art and merch, which is awesome but can be a real stress since it’s extremely unpredictable.

@Anon2: There’s no straight answer to this, I’m afraid. There’s so many variables to whether or not someone can live off their art alone, and finding the proper cocktail that may work for you will take time and typically a lot of trial and error.
The shortest answer is yes, you can make a living off art (solely or in majority). There’s many ways artists manage this, from being an on-staff artist/designer to something more gallery-oriented. There’s so many options in the art world, it really comes down to what you want to do and how high a demand/how much competition there is. Any art school worth its salt will help you understand how the industry works, but if you’re wanting to go for something freer than freelancing/being on salary somewhere, that’s where it can get really tricky. A lot of people will get a normal job to supplement the income they make doing gallery work, from online sales or selling at shows, and if you’re lucky enough you can eventually drop the dayjob once you find the system of selling art that works for you.

If you’re really wanting to do art for your living, start building a portfolio asap so you can start applying to schools or jobs soonest possible. The best portfolios to make for school applications are fundamental, showing you raw drawing ability. These usually consist of figure and still life drawings, etc. Basic, fleshed out work to show your raw skill. Portfolios for jobs are much more evolved, compiled once you’ve got a solid understanding of anatomy, space, structure, and once your style(s) have developed.

Art school- no matter what one you’re looking into -is only as helpful as much you need it. It can be incredibly invaluable, but don’t fall into the typicaly belief that art school will just make you better.
Practice is the best teacher. Good art schools help you grasp things you would grasp normally, just faster, and force you to practice.

NOW, that being said, some art schools are worth the time and money, and others clearly aren’t.
Bluntly, I would NOT recommend any of the Art Institutes to someone who’s serious about art. There are good artists who’ve have come out of the AI’s, that are talented and do good work, but they’re typically very talented from the get-go and the school did little for them. I personally know enough people who’ve transferred out of an AI because they were so stagnated by them.
Of the people I know who’ve transferred, hardly any of their credits transferred over with them. Many art schools don’t take the AI’s credits seriously, it seems.

As for art schools that I would recommend, most of them are well-known because of their reputations. There are a lot of smaller, private art school around the country that are worth the time and money but they take research to find. Outside the US, I’m pretty much dead ignorant of what to suggest.

We get our charms from Ink It Labs- they are lovely people, very helpful and patient (I know because they’ve really had to be with me lolol). They are a bit more pricy than some other options available at the moment, but the quality they provide is easily 10 times Printsess, Zap, etc. Highly recommend A++

@Anon1: My job is pretty much online orders and cons. It’s great not having a boss but it is extremely hard work at times. I’m pretty much customer service, the shipping department, inventory management, and show coordinator everyday. Things get really hectic the 2 or 3 weeks leading up to a con. And I don’t even want to start explaining how massive a job GhostBook’s been.
My dream job? Hm. I would love to work for one of the game companies I adore, especially Irrational. Doing character and creature concepting. But I don’t have a wide enough skill set for that to ever really be an option for me. Between my slow speed and lack of painting skill. I pretty much just draw. : | The end.
I would also like to just do general gallery work successfully but that’s a whole other mess.

hey there! i know it was sorta a while ago, but i have something to say in regards to the post you made about CISPA! In one of my classes there's a mock-debate of sorts led by the students every friday. the student picks the topic, and hands out articles and such so the class can talk about the subject. i did mine on CISPA, and your post was a very helpful gateway to information about the whole shebang, and i guess i just wanted to say thanks for compiling all that info! it really helped a lot.

CISPA has gotten very little attention in the main stream news/media, so we need all the people-from-the-internet we can get rabbling against it. I’m level 51 on Borderland 2, and I’ve literally not got a single legendary drop, period. Or, if I did, it was under Warrior far enough I couldn’t see it (let alone get it). Just beat the game in TVH mode, and I get a legendary, stuck under Warrior. But! I find a video on how to retrieve it by leaving the area. : D

The game has frozen on the loading screen for the Vault.

I’m going to go die now.

Incase you didn’t know, Amanda Abbington (Martin Freeman’s amazing partner) has been threaten and treated to a lot of hurtful, hateful messages over the past couple of days, to due to the fact she is playing Mary in the Sherlock series. This, my fellow Sherlock fandom, is not okay AT ALL.

Do not hate her for playing Mary because you believe that it threatens the existence of Johnlock. If you had read the books, you would know this is false. At the end, Mary dies and John goes to live with Sherlock on a bee farm.

No matter what, treating Amanda Abbington this way about her role in Sherlock, is not okay at all. So, Sherlock fandom, I believe that we need to come together and show Amanda some support. I urge you all to take photos of yourselves holding the “I support Amanda Abbington playing Mary in Sherlock!” like I have done above. (Even if you are a Johnlock shipper, like me.) Let’s show Amanda, along with the rest of the Sherlock cast and crew, what fandom really means. Family.

It’s absurd people are getting so defensive over a pairing that isn’t even canon, in neither the original stories or the show. If you’re a Johnlock shipper, that’s all good and well and there’s nothing wrong with that, but a story doesn’t have to bend itself to legitimize your fandom niche. Especially if it’s an adaptation trying to remain faithful to the canonical writing in its own way/style.
I don’t want to even elaborate how ridiculous it is to harass the actor of the character you’re adverse to. They are an actor, it’s their job to portray that person, if they didn’t someone else would have instead, and they have little if any input on what happens story-wise.

(PS- Additionally, while appreciating the sentiment of the OP, it seems pretty debasing to John’s character for you to be okay with Mary’s appearance in the show because, “it’s okay, she dies in the end and he goes back to Sherlock.” If John falls in love with a woman in the show, as he did in the stories, it doesn’t mean you have to nix your preferred pairing, it only means it’s not canon.)
(PSS- I question why I even bother to add/respond to these sorta of fandom tensions anymore, though in the end it boils down to how I love this show despite all its (many) faults, but a large portion of this fandom alienates me by their behaviour, both within the community and the offensive things that have happened to me personally.)
